baby-Vultureएक गिद्ध का बच्चा अपने माता-पिता के साथ रहता था। एक दिन गिद्ध का बच्चा अपने पिता से बोला- “पिताजी, मुझे भूख लगी है।” “ठीक है, तू थोड़ी देर प्रतीक्षा कर। मैं अभी भोजन लेकर आता हूूं।” कहते हुए गिद्ध उड़ने को उद्धत होने लगा। तभी उसके बच्चे ने उसे टोक दिया, “रूकिए पिताजी, आज मेरा मन इन्सान का गोश्त खाने का कर रहा है।” “ठीक है, मैं देखता हूं।” कहते हुए गिद्ध ने चोंच से अपने पुत्र का सिर सहलाया और बस्ती की ओर उड़ गया।

बस्ती के पास पहुंच कर गिद्ध काफी देर तक इधर-उधर मंडराता रहा, पर उसे कामयाबी नहीं मिली। थक-हार का वह सुअर का गोश्त लेकर अपने घोंसले में पहुंचा। उसे देख कर गिद्ध का बच्चा बोला, “पिताजी, मैं तो आपसे इन्सान का गोश्त लाने को कहा था, और आप तो सुअर का गोश्त ले आए?” पुत्र की बात सुनकर गिद्ध झेंप गया। वह बोला, “ठीक है, तू थोड़ी देर प्रतीक्षा कर।” कहते हुए गिद्ध पुन: उड़ गया। उसने इधर-उधर बहुत खोजा, पर उसे कामयाबी नहीं मिली।

अपने घोंसले की ओर लौटते समय उसकी नजर एक मरी हुई गाय पर पड़ी। उसने अपनी पैनी चोंच से गाय के मांस का एक टुकड़ा तोड़ा और उसे लेकर घोंसले पर जा पहुंचा। यह देखकर गिद्ध का बच्च एकदम से बिगड़ उठा, “पिताजी, ये तो गाय का गोश्त है। मुझे तो इन्सान का गोश्त खाना है। क्या आप मेरी इतनी सी इच्छा पूरी नहीं कर सकते?” यह सुनकर गिद्ध बहुत शर्मिंदा हुआ। उसने मन ही मन एक योजना बनाई और अपने उद्देश्य की पूर्ति के लिए निकल पड़ा।

गिद्ध ने सुअर के गोश्त एक बड़ा सा टुकड़ा उठाया और उसे मस्जिद की बाउंड्रीवाल के अंदर डाल दिया। उसके बाद उसने गाय का गोश्त उठाया और उसे मंदिर के पास फेंक दिया। मांस के छोटे-छोटे टुकड़ों ने अपना काम किया और देखते ही पूरे शहर में आग लग गयी। रात होते-होते चारों ओर इंसानों की लाशें बिछ गयी। यह देखकर गिद्ध बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ। उसने एक इन्सान के शरीर से गोश्त का बड़ा का टुकड़ा काटा और उसे लेकर अपने घोंसले में जा पहुंचा।

यह देखकर गिद्ध का पुत्र बहुत प्रसन्न हुआ। वह बोला, “पापा ये कैसे हुआ? इन्सानों का इतना ढेर सारा गोश्त आपको कहां से मिला?” गिद्ध बोला, “बेटा ये इन्सान कहने को तो खुद को बुद्धि के मामले में सबसे श्रेष्ठ समझता है, पर जरा-जरा सी बात पर ‘जानवर’ से भी बदतर बन जाता है और बिना सोचे-समझे मरने- मारने पर उतारू हो जाता है। इन्सानों के वेश में बैठे हुए अनेक गिद्ध ये काम सदियों से कर रहे हैं। मैंने उसी का लाभ उठाया और इन्सान को जानवर के गोश्त से जानवर से भी बद्तर बना दियाा।”

mother-indiaबस से उतरकर जेब में हाथ डाला। मैं चौंक पड़ा। जेब कट चुकी थी। जेब में था भी क्या? कुल 400 रुपए और एक खत, जो मैंने माँ को लिखा था कि—मेरी नौकरी छूट गई है; अभी पैसे नहीं भेज पाऊँगा…। तीन दिनों से वह पोस्टकार्ड जेब में पड़ा था। पोस्ट करने को मन ही नहीं कर रहा था। 400 रुपए जा चुके थे। यूँ 400 रुपए कोई बड़ी रकम नहीं थी, लेकिन जिसकी नौकरी छूट चुकी हो, उसके लिए 400 रुपए 4000 से कम नहीं होते। कुछ दिन गुजरे। माँ का खत मिला। पढ़ने से पूर्व मैं सहम गया। जरूर पैसे भेजने को लिखा होगा।…लेकिन, खत पढ़कर मैं हैरान रह गया। माँ ने लिखा था—“बेटा, तेरा 1000 रुपए का भेजा हुआ मनीआर्डर मिल गया है। तू कितना अच्छा है रे!…पैसे भेजने में कभी लापरवाही नहीं बरतता।” मैं इसी उधेड़-बुन में लग गया कि आखिर माँ को मनीआर्डर किसने भेजा होगा? कुछ दिन बाद, एक और पत्र मिला। चंद लाइनें थीं—आड़ी-तिरछी। बड़ी मुश्किल से खत पढ़ पाया। लिखा था—“भाई, 400 रुपए तुम्हारे और 600 रुपए अपनी ओर से मिलाकर मैंने तुम्हारी माँ को मनीआर्डर भेज दिया है। फिकर न करना।… माँ तो सबकी एक-जैसी होती है न। वह क्यों भूखी रहे?…

डाक्टर आगे बोला, ” हम एक काम करते है आप दो बेटियां नही चाहती ना ?? ? तो पहलीबेटी को मारदेते है जिससे आप इस अजन्मी बच्ची को जन्म दे सके और आपकी समस्या का हल भी हो जाएगा. वैसे भी हम को एक बच्ची को मारना है तो पहले वाली को ही मार देते हैना.?”
तो वो स्त्री तुरंत बोली”ना ना डाक्टर.”.!!! हत्या करना गुनाह है पाप है और वैसे भी मैं अपनी बेटी को बहुत चाहती हूँ । उसको खरोंच भी आती है तो दर्द का अहसास मुझे होता है डाक्टर तुरंत बोला,”पहले
कि हत्या करो या अभी जो जन्मा नही उसकी हत्या करो दोनो गुनाह है पापहैं ।”
यह बात उस स्त्री को समझ आ गई । वह स्वयं की सोच पर लज्जित हुई और पश्चाताप करते हुए घर चली गई ।
